November 25, 2007

A couple years ago I had a second part-time job for one of the large department store chains. Throughout the year we were told not to forget to tell the customers, "Happy Valentines Day, Happy Halloween, Happy Thanksgiving," etc. At Christmas, however, we were specifically told not to say, "Merry Christmas." We were, instead, directed to say, "Happy Holidays." The corporation was afraid we might offend someone if we used the word Christmas, and they might get sued. I was actually offended by all of this, and decided to use the words, "Merry Christmas" anyway.

This Sums it All Up

Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.

Why the Politically Correct Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings,
the teachers would say
December 25th
is just a 'Holiday'..

Yet the shoppers were ready
with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor
just to get it!

CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod ,
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Potter and Fonda.

But as Target was hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, di-ver-si-ty
Are words that are used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!

At the top of the Senate,
there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus,
in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word,
as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of
Salvation and Grace.

The true Gift of Christmas
was exchanged and discarded
The Reason for the Season,
stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate 'Winter Break'
under your 'Holiday Tree'
While sipping your Starbucks,
listen to me.

Shout 'MERRY CHRISTMAS',
not Happy Holiday,
Our Country was founded
under the Christian way!

Amen! Keep Christmas in Christmas.

Anyone whose feelings are hurt over that could not be much of a person.

wow, that's great-- did you write that?? It's funny you should post 'bout that cuz i just posted 'bout the WAR ON CHRISTMAS o'er at my place today, though I'm taking a different tack-- become SO inclusive as to be ridiculous.

This is a perfect example of this of excessive "political correctness."

Christmas is Christmas. PERIOD.

I am not Christian. Yet I still celebrate a time in my eyes as: Warmth, good spirits, good company, and some good laughs with family and friends.

I do not take offense to people saying "merry Christmas" ... I do not reply with "I am offended that you attack my thoughts with such a word, how dare you not know that I am an agnostic w/deism leanings"

I say it right back to them, "have a good Christmas."

PC behavior is bullshit. PERIOD. <--- stole RWA's format. :D

Nothing destroys our civility like forced political and social conditioning. People should be allowed to believe what they want and display their belief. <--- yes this even goes to the people who hold up pictures of aborted babies.

Merry Christmas bloggers. :D

Jesus is the reason for the season, and this is a very poignant post, Darkness.

Merry CHRISTmas!

I was in WalMart the other day and they said, "Happy Holidays," at the checkout. I, of course, responded, "Merry Christmas." They didn't respond. I know they couldn't I t was funny, too, because the cashier had a thing around her neck holding her ID/Nametag thing and it had the Christian fish symbol on it. I hate the "Happy Holidays" crap.

I came here through a link on my dad's blog (e.craig). I noticed we are around the same age and have kids close in age. It even sounds like you're from here where we are? I am also an artist. Do we know each other? Should we?
